Who stole my CHEESE???

This week, there was a lot of excitement going on among the employees at Seawater Corp. because it is the "Cheese" distribution time.
It is the time when many people thought they should be duly rewarded for all the hard work that they have put in for the past year.

I had a good talk with my manager, Mr D on this
Marc: Will I get high increment this year?
D: You know, there is only this piece of Cheese and there are 9 of you...
Marc: Will I get promoted this year?
D: Out of the 9 guys inside my team, I can only promote 1.

Marc: Isn't that 10%?

D : Statistically, you are right!

Marc: But D, I couldn't wait that long!

D: You know, I waited 10 years before I become a manager,

Marc: Speechless.....

I assessed my satisfaction of my current increment based on 3 criteria

1) Comparison with past year's increment

2) Comparison with S average increment

3) Comparison with National average increment..

I did a survey on some colleagues and found that most of the employees at Seawater Corp. are upset.
This is because their expectations far exceeded what they expected for in their increment....

Daffy, one of my confidante at S, is satisfied with her increment................... till I told her that the highest a person could get is 10%.

Anthony, team supervisor, was so pissed off at getting only 3.5% increment that he started surfing net everyday. He rebutted that he will be spending only 3.5% of his time doing work

I'm particular worried about my EA,Mr K.
Despite being a good team worker, he did not get promoted nor the pay rise he is expecting.
He has harped to me several times on this and besides consoling him, there is really nothing I can do.

On the other side of the scale, those who got promoted were not particular impressed with their increments too.

Ang Lancer, automation guy who got promoted, compared his increments with his peers and found them to be peanuts.....

Miss H, a process engineer who got promoted from Engineer 1 to Engineer 2, told me that she will be getting more shit in the future. In the end, it is really not worth the money.

Mr X, whom I have always publicly criticized in e-mails for doing a lousy job, got promoted to SE. So unfair!

In the end, it seems that everyone is not happy with their increment.
Who really got the big Cheese? Directors ?

Aik, one of Seawater Corp. ex-colleague, advised me
:

" The direction is clear, either you keep quiet over your peanut increment or you jolly well look for another job."

Hmm, time to move on?

Increment is never fair especially in manufacturing. If your boss like you, you get the biggest piece of the pie, ever without any contribution.

What you need is a boss who take care of you, that's what most of us don't have. Those who has are either Monkey(manager)or donkey (director) by now. There are only a few exception who work hard to get to these position.

However, I would still think that we should work not only hard but smart.

Pls don't work like your boss Mr.D... he works very hard and wants everything fast, but not smart.

DON'T work like my boss also, he likes to take up everythings even things that don't belong to him. The worst, he don't even take the credit.

Both are good boss (who takes care of their guys?? I think so lah) , but lousy manager.
