Canon Photomarathon 2007...

The Straits Times are not lying when they mentioned that there are 1082 participants for this event! Hmmmm, I wonder if there are more Nikon or Cannon owners down there? John Cosgrove (Contributing Editor of PHOTOVIDEOi Magazine) holding the first theme of the day. He is also one of the 3 panel judges for the event. Theme 1 - Passion I caught this picture while one of my team mates, Terran is busy catching the shot. This is passion, right? JS has one of the best lens among us, 70 - 300mm. All efforts to sabotage him during the event did not work as planned :) Theme 2 - Challenge This shot was taken while the man is busy gazing at the computer screens. Theme 3 - Playtime! This shot was taken while we are walking past the padang. These girls from Cedar Girls schools are busy preparing their tents for Sunday's Women 10KM run. They were very excited when we start shooting at them and decided to post this jubilant shot for us... For those who wanted to lay their

Studying for Six Sigma is not really as easy as what I thought it would be. Instead of spending 4 months to complete the course, it was shrunk to 3 months due to cost cutting measures. During these 3 months, we have to 1) study online courses prior to the classes 2) study all the modules taught in class and be tested at the end of each week's training 3) complete a project and used all the modules taught in class We are exposed to Hypothesis, Anova, sample size calculations..... blah blah, besides the normal statistics lessons like Binomial and Poisson taught during the early school days.... The toughest part was all these need to be done in additional to our current workload. Luckily, for me, Mr D has been rather supportive of this course and did not reprimand me, despite catching me doing the project during office hours. Anyway, I'm glad it is over, possibly due to the fact that I have stopped studying for many years or perhaps due to the fact that I have no interests in sta

A recent phone chat with Terran, my University friend cum neighbour revealed that he has quitted his full time job to pursue his own dreams. At a time when money and career meant a lot to most of us, he has chosen a path otherwise taken. He has taken up a full time course on multimedia and visual communication design in the hope of fulfilling his interest. I remembered Terran said something during the conversation that I will never forget:" I never want to be an engineer again ". So what really prompt him to make a bold career move, especially since he has just got married and needed a full time job to earn his bacon? To Terran, life means living to the fullest. He didn't want to earn his monthly bacon and pass to his wife, rather, he wants to know what would have happened if he has pursued his interests. Terran's story touches my heart immersely! Deep inside, I'm tired after working as an engineer for 5 years. Day in and out, we engineers have been slogging hard

Who stole my CHEESE???

This week, there was a lot of excitement going on among the employees at Seawater Corp. because it is the "Cheese" distribution time. It is the time when many people thought they should be duly rewarded for all the hard work that they have put in for the past year. I had a good talk with my manager, Mr D on this Marc: Will I get high increment this year? D: You know, there is only this piece of Cheese and there are 9 of you... Marc: Will I get promoted this year? D: Out of the 9 guys inside my team, I can only promote 1. Marc: Isn't that 10%? D : Statistically, you are right! Marc: But D, I couldn't wait that long! D: You know, I waited 10 years before I become a manager, Marc: Speechless..... I assessed my satisfaction of my current increment based on 3 criteria 1) Comparison with past year's increment 2) Comparison with S average increment 3) Comparison with National average increment.. I did a survey on some colleagues and found that most of the employees at

Wedding preparations...

Lessons learnt for my wedding preparations.... Overall 1) My credit limit is $5000.... 2) Rest well and have a full stomach when making purchases. It helps to clear your mind 3)If you like a particular item, tell the salesman that you will think about it. If you come back the 2nd time, you are able to drive a lower price 4) Be assertive in your purchase. Relying on salesman's advice is unforgivable. 5)If the prices of certain items sound ridiculously expensive to you, always remember the 3 steps Step 1 - Tell the salesman that the thing is good to have while caressing it Step 2 - Give a appreciative smile Step 3 - Make your way out of the shop in a unhasten manner This is to give an impression that you appreciated good stuff but is not crazy enough to spend it. Wedding bands 1) Platinum is more expensive than white gold, although I can't differentiate them 2) There are 4 Cs for diamonds -> Clarity, Carats, 3) Chinese tea is only served in Lee Hwa, elsewhere you are likely
