Kopitiam Card - The Untold Story

I was with Sandy at Sembawang Shopping Centre Kopitiam one sunday .....

Sandy: Hey, got the Kopitiam card, let's get it leh! I think it is on sale....
Marc: Okie

Auntie Behind Counter: Yes, good evening, can I help you?
Marc: Er....Good evening! I like to buy a kopitiam card
Auntie Behind Counter : Ok, you want the pink or blue one?
Marc: What's the difference?
Auntie Behind Counter: Pink card for new user. Blue card for existing user.
Marc: Oh, Pink card for me then.....
Auntie Behind Counter: May I remind you that for the pink card, there is no discount for the first $20.
Marc: How come leh?
Auntie Behind Counter: Company policy. (Smiling sheepishly....)
Marc: Okie, no choice loh. What is the minimum I have to put?
Auntie Behind Counter:Oh, that would be $20 Sir.
Marc: Here you go (Passing $50 bill)
Auntie Behind Counter: Oh, I forgot to mentioned. You need to pay $1 for the deposit, so that means you only have $19.
Marc: Ok, just top up to $21 lah
Auntie Behind Counter: Oh, you can't do that, you can only top up in $5 or $10 increment.
Marc: Wa, so troublesome.....
Auntie Behind Counter: Company policy, Company policy, Company policy
Marc: Ok, top up $25 then
Auntie Behind Counter: Once you used up the $20, we will automatically change the card to blue and you can enjoy the 10% discount thereafter
Marc: How do you know when I have exceeded the $20?
Auntie Behind Counter: Oh, don't worry, we have a good system to do that....

Who stole my CHEESE???

This week, there was a lot of excitement going on among the employees at Seawater Corp. because it is the "Cheese" distribution time. It is the time when many people thought they should be duly rewarded for all the hard work that they have put in for the past year. I had a good talk with my manager, Mr D on this Marc: Will I get high increment this year? D: You know, there is only this piece of Cheese and there are 9 of you... Life's important lesson: What have you learn today?

People have been asking me this question:"Marc, why did you leave H, aren't you happy working there? Why risk throwing a job away when the job stability in Singapore is not really that good?" I'm amused..... Sure, in a manufacturing environment, I can't denied that we keep hearing about job retrenchments. But then again, which company is "retrenchment free"? Even SIA has to retrench to keep itself lean. I don't really think Singapore economy is that bad. The news about people losing their jobs overnight was meant to educate Singaporeans to appreciate whatever jobs they are holding now. In Singapore, we are a very conservative lot of people who are very afraid to try out things. We are afraid of losing our jobs, health, marriage, property..... You name it and we have it. (This explains why insurance agents are laughing their way through) Why should we worry about losing all these things? Shouldn't we be treasuring whatever we owned at this moment ...
